'Meme' Facebook pages catching attention of schools

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Thursday August 16 2012 12:40

The latest social media phenomenon has schools questioning what students can say online about them.

Memes are internet-generated pictures which people can add cheeky captions to.

Seems harmless, but at Auckland's Westlake Boys' High School, some students created memes making personal jokes about teachers.

The New Zealand Herald reports a Facebook page with them was ordered to be taken down and the boys responsible were hauled into the principal's office.

Principal David Ferguson says the school won't tolerate students being offensive about staff in a public forum.
