By: Lesley Deverall | New Zealand News | Thursday May 31 2012 15:03

The Civil Service Union says public service cuts are biting home in provincial New Zealand today with dozens of IRD staff losing their jobs.

Approximately 60 staff are are being made redundant from the Invercargill, Nelson, Rotorua, Napier and New Plymouth offices.

The PSA says these people are being replaced by what he describes as "virtual jobs" in the big metropolitan centres.

Secretary Richard Wagstaff says regional New Zealand is in desperate need of jobs and economic stimulus, and local people spend their earnings a local businesses which will also be hit by these cuts.
