Rena wreck to go by year's end

| New Zealand News | Monday September 3 2012 5:19

The wreck of the Rena will be gone from the Tauranga horizon by the end of the year.

US salvage company Resolve Salvage & Fire has removed 85 individual pieces of steel weighing around 300 tonnes from the bow section over the past two weeks.

A new debris recovery vessel starts work today to assist with the cleanup around the Astrolabe Reef.

The 30m Tasman Challenger has been modified for collection of debris from Rena.

It will be used for recovering container scrap and heavier cargo from the seabed around the shipwreck.
