A woman whose husband died in a crash by the Waitomo Caves remains in a critical condition in Waitako Hospital.

The American couple were on their honeymoon when their car collided with a cement truck on Thursday.

31-year-old Kenneth Stithem died in the crash and his 28-year-old wife Kirsten Steinke is awaiting surgery.

Her parents have arrived from Colorado and are at their daughter's bedside.
