NZ students washed into sea off coast

| New Zealand News | Wednesday August 8 2012 16:22

A rescue helicopter, inflatable rescue boat and other boats have gone to the aid of about 20 students after they became marooned on New Plymouth's Paritutu Rock in New Zealand.

Some of them have fallen into the sea and police are concerned they may have drowned.

The group is made of instructors and students and they became trapped about 1.30pm today.

Rescuers are concentrating on the people in the water but are being hampered by a rough two and a half metre swell.
