Scientists and policymakers will meet in Queenstown this week, to discuss the biggest issues facing Antarctica over the next two decades.

The inaugural Antarctic and Southern Ocean Horizon Scan conference will feature leading Antarctic experts, from New Zealand and around the world.

Antarctica New Zealand chief executive Peter Beggs says the souther polar region drives the climate of New Zealand, and the world.

He says as scientists monitor changes to Antarctica, they are also gaining a better understanding of the changing climate of New Zealand.
