Homicide investigators arrest drug dealer

By: Lesley Deverall | New Zealand News | Monday October 1 2012 13:59

Police investigating the homicide of Paeroa businessman Jordan Voudouris, have arrested a convicted drug dealer who's been on the run for two and a half years.

57-year-old Steven Mehrtens was granted electronic bail in 2010 but managed to remove the bracelet and take off.

He's now been found him living on a small rural property near Katikati - and has today been sentenced to two months' jail for removing the bracelet and fleeing.

He'll be sentenced next week for manufacture and supply of methamphetamine.

Detective Senior Sergeant Mike Whitehead says Mehrtens' arrest appears to have no connection to the still unsolved killing of Mr Voudouris.

He's urging anyone with information relevant to the fatal shooting to contact the Operation Olive team or call crime stoppers.
