Air NZ accused of transphobia

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Tuesday December 4 2012 10:02

Air New Zealand is being accused of displaying transphobia after a controversial Christmas Cracker promotion on its Grabaseat website.

Sydney Morning Herald reports people were given the chance to win prizes, and those who didn't received a consolation joke instead.

One read "What large heavy ball was responsible for Valerie Adams' gold medal? The Belarusian's left testicle."

The joke refers to Nadzeya Ostapchuk being stripped of the shotput gold medal at the Olympics earlier this year, after testing positive for a banned steroid.

No apology though; instead Air New Zealand is asking people to send in their own "tacky kiwi jokes", so they can add them into the crackers.
