Police send warning over alcohol 'pre-loading'

| New Zealand News | Saturday October 13 2012 8:42

Police have issued a warning about alcohol pre-loading - or getting drunk before going out - after two young women were taken in for detox - at 11am.

The 19-year-olds turned up to the Hastings races, but were so drunk they were drying out in the cells by 11.30am.

Police say the girls could barely stand and had been dumped by their male friends.

They say more examples of pre-loading were obvious as the day went on, with a steady stream of "well and truly loaded" people denied entry in the early afternoon.

They're urging drinkers to think carefully before they "load up" prior to an event or going out for the night.
