14-year-old steals truck, drives 140km

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Sunday May 13 2012 8:13

A 14-year-old boy has been spoken to by police after taking a heavy goods truck on a 140km joyride between Christchurch and Timaru.

The New Zealand Herald reports the $200,000 rig was reported stolen by the boy's father, who'd only bought it three days earlier.

Truckies were alerted to keep an eye out for the vehicle, one spotted it and called the sighting in to police.

When it was pulled over officers found there was another 14-year-old riding in the passenger seat.
