Kim Allan runs 500km without sleeping

Kim Allan has broken the women's world record for the longest run without sleeping.

The Waikato woman finished a 500 kilometre run around the Auckland Domain around 8.15PM last night.

The 47-year-old mother of four started running on Thursday.

Support crew member and ultra-distance runner Michael Rodliffe says she was in surprisingly good spirits as she crossed the finish line.

"She was wandering around, opening up the chiller bin and saying 'who wants some food? Take some food - I'm not going to eat this!'

"So yeah, she was very good for somebody who'd just run 500 kilometres."

He says there was plenty of support for Kim Allan as she crossed the finish line.

"She was very, very emotional, and there was a large crowd to cheer and applaud her.

"I think she was pretty overwhelmed by it. She didn't expect that much accolade and attention."

The run is a fundraiser for the New Zealand Spinal Trust.
