An independent inquiry is to be launched into the WINZ privacy breach. MSD chief executive Brendan Boyle has just made the announcement. Blogger Keith Ng says he managed to walk into two WINZ offices and access the personal information of a number of people using the self serve kiosks. Green Party co-leader Metiria Turei says MSD failed to address the problem when it was previously raised with them by beneficiary advocate Kay Brereton. "Well MSD clearly failed to deal with her concern - they've said that they rebuilt the system, but whatever system they rebuilt it to, didn't fix the problem." Ms Turei fears cut backs in back office staff and Government reforms may have caused the problem. Photo: NZ Herald |
