Women's accessories a sign of insecurity

By: Annabel Reid | New Zealand News | Wednesday April 18 2012 6:04

A group of researchers has found a relationship between shoes and handbags, and insecurity.

The study looks into how a woman's accessorising helps her feel more attractive, without drawing attention to her figure, which she may feel insecure about.

University of Canterbury researcher Jessica Boyce says pictures of celebrities in advertising plays a significant role.

"So those who are more prone to experience insecurity in response to the media images, tended to own more of these accessories."

Jessica Boyce says over a thousand female undergraduate students from Alberta, Canada and Christchurch made up the focus group.
