Harawira delighted by asset sales decision

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Monday July 30 2012 16:55

There's delight from Mana leader Hone Harawira at news the Waitangi Tribunal wants a temporary halt put on the partial asset sales process.

The Tribunal has issued an interim ruling on the Maori Council water rights claim and says asset sales must be temporarily stopped while it fully considers that and until it can issue a full report in September.

Mr Harawira says it's the first significant step in shutting down the government's plan to sell the power companies, and along with most Kiwis, he couldn't be happier.

He is however predicting that Prime Minister John Key will simply spit in the face of the Tribunal.

State Owned Enterprises Minister Tony Ryall says the report will be fully considered and a decision made in due course.
