Rare white Kiwi celebrated in new book

By: Nita Blake-Persen | New Zealand News | Wednesday September 26 2012 9:02

New Zealand's rare white kiwi Manukura is being celebrated in a new children's book.

Renowned author Joy Cowley has penned the tale, which details Manukura's hatching at Pukaha Mount Bruce last year as well as her journey since then.

Pukaha Mount Bruce centre manager Kathy Houkamau says it's a very special story, particularly for children.

"I think in particular it's the kids that have really connected with Manukura, and that was really evident on her first birthday, on the 1st of May this year. We received close to 200 birthday cards for her from children."

The new book will be on sale from late next week.
