Child dies in freak accident

By: Blair Cunningham | New Zealand News | Sunday May 6 2012 11:46

A scene examination is underway in Te Aroha where an 18-month-old was killed by a falling stove.

Emergency services found the toddler unconscious and not breathing when they were called to the address in the Waikato town earlier today.

Police say while the post mortem examination is still to be carried out, it appears a free-standing stove has fallen on top of the boy.

Senior Sergeant Rod Carpinter says police are currently speaking to people at the property including friends and family.

He says a scene examination will take place shortly and a post mortem examination at a later stage.
