By: Lesley Deverall | New Zealand News | Tuesday September 11 2012 17:18

Police have found the mother of the newborn baby girl found dead in a Hutt Valley back yard.

Inspector Shane Cotter says the woman, in her early 20s, was found during a police canvas of the local area.

He says the woman had not sought any medical attention, but since been hospitalised and is being treated for complications as a result of the birth.

He says enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the baby's birth are continuing, a post-mortem examination will be carried out tomorrow - and at this stage police have no further comment to make.
