Nothing illegal in giving out EQC information

A privacy law expert believes a Christchurch blogger is not breaking the law by giving out private EQC information to individuals.

The anonymous EQC Truths blogger says he has received information from a disgruntled EQC employee that is very similar to the spreadsheet sent to Bryan Staples - who mistakenly got confidential information on 85-thousand damaged homes.

The blogger is now offering to provide the information to individuals if they prove their identity.

Partner at Taylor Shaw, Katherine Dalziel does not believe this would breach any privacy laws.

"He's got some responsibilities in terms of use and accuracy, but I don't see too much difficulty in just showing people what he's got about them."
