Kapiti Council tackles alcohol, violence issues

By: Rebecca McKeown | New Zealand News | Monday September 17 2012 5:17

The Kapiti Coast District Council's arming itself this week, in a new war against alcohol and violence.

Mayor Jenny Rowan says the council will be considering all initiatives to tackle the issues, after a young man was murdered outside a local bar Saturday morning.

She says the homicide has rattled the Kapiti community, especially as it comes just one month after another youth was killed in the same area.

Ms Rowan says a range of approaches will be considered this week.

"We are looking at liquor bans in the district, that was already on our agenda and I think we need to bring those up and action them much more quickly. But much more importantly we need to keep working with the agencies in the district.

The 22-year-old man accused of killing Sean Strongman-Lintern will appear in the Porirua District Court today.
