The idea of having a separate court for children is receiving a cool reception.
Principal Family Court Judge Peter Boshier says effective early intervention for children could be offered through a division of the Family Court, rather than a separate care and protection court.
Law Society Family Law section chairman Garry Collins agrees.
He says there are much more pressing issues than a dual court system.
"And it's the current integrity of the Family Court I think which is more important than trying to set up another court."
Mr Collins says setting up another court will only lead to increased costs.
