Christchurch's Radio Network House will be reduced to rubble in a matter of seconds this morning. The 14 storey building will be imploded at 8am, with six-year-old cancer patient Jayden Halliwell pushing the button to detonate 63 kilograms of explosives. A public exclusion zone has been set up around the area, and big crowd is expected to see the building come down. CERA boss Roger Sutton says if the implosion is successful, other earthquake damaged buildings may be brought down in the same way as it's faster and cheaper than other methods. There will be a live stream of the implosion as it happens on the website. |
