Strong winds have been causing havoc in Wellington this morning. Gusts have exceeded 100 kilometres an hour, and Fire Service spokesman David Meikle says they've dealt with a string of weather-related calls this morning. "We did have a window blown out of the Amora Hotel in the CBD, which we attended to. Also, iron coming from shed 6 on the waterfront and most of the others have been residential properties." Meanwhile the All Blacks are set to play Argentina in the gale force winds tonight. Several flights in and out of the capital have been also been affected by the wind morning. Weatherwatch's Philip Duncan says it's part of a spring system making its way over Wellington. "At the moment we've got winds gusting to 100km an hour right in the city centre. It's certainly blustery and we can imagine there will be gusts up in the more exposed areas of maybe 130 or 140km an hour." Duncan says the system could be with us until Wednesday. |
