Mangawhai ratepayers pack High Court

WHANGAREI - Nearly 100 Mangawhai Ratepayers and Residents Association members have turned up at the High Court at Whangarei this morning, as they push for a judicial review against the Kaipara District Council.

It stems from the cost of an Eco Care Wastewater scheme in 2004.

Ratepayers Newstalk ZB has spoken to say they are fed up of having to pay for the scheme.

One irony that has been raised, is that the cost of the council's defence is coming out of ratepayer's pockets as well.

The court has heard how too much water has passed under the bridge since the controversial wastewater scheme.

The lawyer for the Kaipara District Council, David Goddard, says they're seeking to strike out the Association's judicial review, in order to allow the local bill to pass through Parliament.

The bill, which seeks to validate the council's actions, has already passed its first reading.
