Call for Erebus pilot and crew to be cleared

United Future leader Peter Dunne plans to pressure the Government into officially clearing the pilot and crew involved in the Erebus disaster.

The crash killed 257 people and an original report blamed pilot error.

A subsequent Royal Commission of Inquiry blamed Air New Zealand for changing navigation co-ordinates without telling the pilots.

Mr Dunne says that view is now widely accepted and he thinks an official exoneration needs to come from parliament.

He says the families deserve that and it'd provide some form of closure to a devastating part of our history.
