Driver involved in fatal crash won't be prosecuted

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Monday July 9 2012 8:51

The driver of a car involved in a fatal pedestrian crash in the Waikato won't be prosecuted.

Hawke's Bay man William Hoskins was walking back to a Cambridge motel after his cousin's wedding on Marychurch Road when he was hit by a vehicle in the early morning of the 15th of January.

Waikato District Commander Superintendent Win van der Velde says the investigation into the 26-year-old's death has been a long and extensive one.

He says as a result of the investigation, and after legal advice - they've decided the case lacks the evidence to successfully prosecute the driver involved.

Superintendent van der Welde says police know this news is upsetting to the family and friends of Mr Hoskins, and have expressed their condolences to the family.

It'll now be up to the coroner to determine the cause of death.
