Police still unsure how Jane Furlong died

By: Anna Cross | New Zealand News | Wednesday June 20 2012 13:53

Police say they don't yet know how Auckland prostitute Jane Furlong died.

It's been confirmed a skeleton found at Port Waikato last month is that of the 17-year-old who went missing in 1993.

Detective Inspector Mark Benefield says they have a team working in Port Waikato today to try to figure out how Jane Furlong died.

He says they've discovered a number of items with her skeleton, but won't say what.

Detective Inspector Benefield says he's been in contact with her mother and son, who was a baby when she went missing.

He says, while it's tough for them, it also brings some closure.
