Criticism for media over Macdonald case

By: Natasha Burling | New Zealand News | Wednesday August 1 2012 5:25

The Law Society is taking a swipe at the media over its infatuation with the Ewen Macdonald case.

Macdonald will appear in the High Court in Palmerston North next month on arson, vandalism and deer poaching charges, along with three other charges that have been suppressed.

Law Society Criminal Law Section convener Jonathan Krebs says it's become an absolute media feeding frenzy.

He says it's almost got to the point where the media is putting our justice system into disrepute by the intense level of scrutiny.

Mr Krebs says it's inappropriate for media outlets to run polls about whether Ewen Macdonald is guilty.
