Wanganui won't back down on 'Beast' arrival

By: Jacqui Stanford | New Zealand News | Sunday August 26 2012 6:51

The Beast may be in town, but people in Wanganui are a long way from giving up their fight.

Sex offender Stewart Murray Wilson has been moved to the town's prison, ahead of being re-housed on the prison grounds next week.

Wanganui Council is in court tomorrow pushing for a judicial review of the Parole Board's plans for him.

Councillor Ray Stevens is bemused.

"If it was me, the PC, the correct thing to have done would have been to wait for the decision to be made. I just hope it's a big waste of time and they have to send him back, but we'll just wait and see."

No matter what happens there, Stevens will also be out tomorrow with a stack of trespass notices.

" He won't be welcome, even if we're unlucky enough to get lumbered with him, he will not be welcome in the town."

Stevens says no matter what happens in court, judging by the sentiment in the air, Wanganui is not going to lie down.
