Expert hoping for intelligence merger

| New Zealand News | Tuesday October 2 2012 5:30

A defence and securities expert hopes the review of the GCSB ends with a merger with the SIS.

Secretary of Cabinet Rebecca Kitteridge has been tasked with carrying out a performance review of the Government's spy agency, the GCSB, in light of the Kim Dotcom saga.

Dr Jim Veitch of Massey University wants to see the GCSB, SIS and the police's intelligence centre all under the same umbrella.

"I think there's a lot of areas now that can be brought together as they rethink what is good for New Zealand in terms of intelligence and surveillance."

Dr Veitch says this is the perfect opportunity for the Government to put things together, and become more efficient.
