Complaint over ghoulish Spookers billboard upheld

By: Jacqui Stanford | New Zealand News | Saturday September 1 2012 17:32

A complaint has been upheld about a frightening billboard for a horror theme park.

The sign for Auckland house of horrors Spookers featured two ghoulish monsters, covered in blood, and baring their teeth aggressively.

A complaint was made to the Advertising Standards Authority that it was revolting and could be easily seen by children who would be frightened by the ghoulish imagery.

The billboard was originally in the Auckland suburb of Parnell, but it was moved to a Penrose commercial area after the complaint was laid.

However the Advertising Standards Authority says the relocation of the image made little difference.

It says the high visibility of horror imagery that was deliberately meant to be frightening to attract horror buffs, was also visible to children who may not understand the concept of a horror park.

It's ordered the billboard be taken down.
