Engineers worked into the night to get the power back on, after 6000 homes were blacked out in Upper Hutt and Wainuiomata. Wind gusts reached 170 kilometres an hour on the Rimutaka Hill Road yesterday, forcing police to close it for a time. Sections of roofs were lifted in the central city and at Wainuiomata. The weather also brought the All Blacks test against Argentina to a temporary halt, but only delayed the inevitable - All Blacks 21, Argentina 5. Photo: NZ Herald |
