AFFCO has been fined over $56,000 after one of its employees fell nearly seven metres at its Horotiu meatworks. The company's also been ordered to pay $8000 in reparations. The Hamilton District Court heard that the worker received significant injuries in the fall, including multiple compound fractures of the left leg and fractured toes in both feet. The Labour Department says the risk of a fall had previously been identified, but measures put in place, including a gate at the top of the well- shaft and a fall arrest harness for employees, were not sufficient to prevent the accident in March last year. |
