Save TVNZ 7 group calls decision a waste

| New Zealand News | Saturday May 5 2012 15:04

Save TVNZ 7 has criticised a planned new plus one format as a shocking, lazy waste of money.

TVNZ has announced it'll replace TVNZ 7 with a channel repeating TV One programmes - just one hour later.

That's angered United Future leader Peter Dunne who last December signed a deal with National to maintain current levels of funding for the channel.

Save TVNZ 7 spokesman Myles Thomas says both Mr Dunne and Labour's Clare Curran have done their bit.

"I think they're kind of banging away at trying to change the Government's mind. The Government so far haven't shown any indication. There are whispers that they might be reconsidering, every now and then we hear rumours."

Mr Thomas says TVNZ 7 draws around 1.4 million viewers a month.
