Resignation a chance to regain trust in ACC

By: Sam Thompson | New Zealand News | Wednesday June 13 2012 10:07

The ACC Futures Coalition says the resignation of chairman John Judge presents ACC with a real opportunity to rebuild trust in the scheme and in the corporation.

Former Commerce Commission chairwoman Paula Rebstock has stepped in as Acting Chair until a permanent appointment is made.

Coalition spokeswoman Hazel Armstrong says with the series of mishandling of private information of clients, the new person appointed to head ACC must refocus on rebuilding public trust and confidence.

"The trust has to be restored. There is no choice, I don't think anyone wants us to return to litigation and the right to sue, that's the only other option."

Ms Armstrong says ACC's shift towards an insurance model, together with the privacy issue, has undermined the integrity of the scheme.
