Veterans off to Egypt to commemorate battle

By: Nina Burton | New Zealand News | Monday October 15 2012 11:44

22 New Zealand veterans are heading off to Egypt to mark the 70th anniversary of the Battle of El Alamein.

Their Airforce Boeing 757 is departing around now.

The veterans of the North African campaign will attend a ceremony and service in Egypt later this week for the commemorations.

One 90-year-old veteran says it's great meeting other veterans and sharing stories.

He says it's interesting hearing other people's viewpoints and what happened, but for some it's quite traumatic as well.
