Major international safety conference this week

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Monday October 1 2012 8:34

World leaders in the field of injury prevention are in Wellington this week for a major international safety conference.

The Safety 2012 World Conference begins today in the capital, with experts from around the world to speak on topics from workplace accidents to quad bike safety.

Co-chair of the conference organising committee, Dr Carolyn Coggan says New Zealand can learn a lot from the foreign experts.

She says although our research and surveillance is of a high standard, we're falling behind on the implementation of injury prevention policies.

Dr Coggan believes one of New Zealand's biggest areas of concern is safety in the home.
