Electrolux factory gutted by fire in Christchurch

By: Shani Annand-Baron | New Zealand News | Sunday August 5 2012 15:17

It's believed the building gutted by fire in Christchurch's CBD is the home of an Electrolux factory.

The Welles Street building's still well alight as eight fire appliances battle the blaze, with fire safety and police officers readily available.

A fire service spokesman says he's unable to comment on whether the commercial building, between Colombo and Manchester Streets, was occupied, and the cause of the fire also remains unknown.

He says they're now fighting the flames from the outside.

Earlier a number of firefighters were seen entering the burning building.

The Fire Service was called to the fire just after 11 o'clock this morning.
