Heaphy track hut opened

Related

The new Heaphy track hut has been officially opened.

Conservation Minister Nick Smith opened the hut today, saying it's palatial compared with the old one.

Dr Smith says the hut, in the Kahurangi National Park, is part of a $2.2 million upgrade of facilities on the 78-kilometre track, including replacement of the bridge over the Heaphy River destroyed by floods last July.

The track is the country's longest Great Walk.
