Missing soldier's body found in lake

By: Anna Cross | New Zealand News | Tuesday October 2 2012 16:59

Police and Navy divers have recovered a body believed to be that of soldier Private Michael Ross who's been missing for a week in Lake Moawhango, near Waiouru.

The body was found in about 40 metres of water around 2:30 this afternoon.

Inspector Steve Mastrovich says the body has now been taken to Waiouru Military Camp and will then go to Palmerston North for a post mortem.

He says it's been a long and difficult week for the family and friends of Private Ross and for the many people who've assisted in the search.

Inspector Mastrovich says although they would've wished for a happier outcome, they're pleased that recovering the body will offer some comfort to those who are grieving.
