Engineers demand public know earthquake prone buildings

By: Newstalk ZB staff | New Zealand News | Wednesday September 12 2012 13:11

A group representing engineers in New Zealand wants all information on earthquake prone buildings to be available to the public.

The Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Canterbury earthquake is hearing evidence in Christchurch this afternoon, on key issues facing building regulators.

Deputy chief executive of the Institution of Professional Engineering New Zealand, Nicki Crauford says better management is needed for earthquake prone buildings.

She says we need a more stringent approach to identifying these buildings - with some authorities taking a very passive direction.
