Mentoring ad teaches making of a P pipe

By: Jacqui Stanford | New Zealand News | Sunday September 2 2012 7:17

A youth mentoring programme has been censured for an advertisement which offered instructions on how to make a P pipe.

The Brothers In Arms ad was meant to encourage people to join the mentoring programme in order to help save at-risk youths from a life of crime.

The ad features a young person explaining how to make a P pipe, something he said his cousin had taught him to do, with the closing line from an adult: "If you donâ t mentor them, someone else will".

Brothers In Arms says while it's unconventional, it's also been successful.

The Advertising Standards Authority wants the ad pulled, as it provides instructions on an illegal and dangerous practice.

The ad has already run its course.
