Protestors make their voices heard in Waitangi

By: Newstalk ZB | Latest National News | Sunday February 5 2012 11:24

Calls to show respect have been ignored by protestors in Waitangi this morning.

Protestors attempted to rush the Prime Minister when he arrived.

As John Key took the stage to reply to his welcome, a group of ten to 20 protestors attempted to launch at him.

Like their first attempt, Maori wardens held back the protestors.

Mr Key's Ministers and MPs gatherd behind him for the remainder of his reply.

Labour leader David Shearer experienced a more subdued and pleasant start than his National counterpart.

Following his party's formal welcome at Te Tii marae, Mr Shearer and other Labour MPs have completed a walk-by of the markets in the adjacent Waitangi campground.

Meanwhile Prime Minister John Key is at the Waitangi Trust book launch.
