Home loan affordability remains unchanged

| New Zealand News | Saturday October 27 2012 6:57

Home loan affordability has remained unchanged in the past month.

The latest Roost report indicates an increase in the median house price - but it's been offset by a slight rise in incomes.

Interest.co.nz's Bernard Hickey says the report shows affordability for young working couples is still near its best in almost eight years - except in Auckland.

"The median house price is significantly higher in Auckland than elsewhere, but incomes are not that much higher. So it's very difficult for someone on a single income in Auckland to afford to buy the median priced house."

The most affordable areas to buy a house are Whanganui, Palmerston North and Invercargill.
