Renewed plea for drivers to take care

By: Anna Cross | New Zealand News | Monday October 22 2012 6:10

There's a renewed plea to drivers this morning, as people who've been away for the long weekend pack up for the journey home.

The road toll for Labour weekend stands at six, with the official holiday period continuing until 6am tomorrow.

The toll for the same weekend last year was seven.

Dog and Lemon Guide editor Clive Matthew-Wilson says it makes sense to drive with headlights on, especially given the weather conditions, because it can reduce the chance of a crash by 20 percent.

"Wet roads are always more dodgy, they're even more dodgy in holiday times, they're even more dodgy still when people are tired and grumpy and wanting to get home in a hurry."
