It's emerged there is no capacity in New Zealand to train people who help fit amputees with prosthetic limbs. The Artificial Limb Board has told a Parliamentary committee there is currently no tertiary qualification available for prosthetists in the country. It says efforts have been made to fix the problem but because only a small number of qualified people are needed it's not economically viable for tertiary institutions to provide the training. The nearest tertiary provider is based in Melbourne. Photo: Getty Images |
