Lifeguards fired over 'Gangnam Style' remake

By: Natasha Burling | International News | Friday September 21 2012 8:26

Fourteen US lifeguards have been sacked by their municipal council employers after doing a take-off of a South Korean rapper.

The lifeguards have been fired after doing a parody of Psy's 'Gangnam Style' and posting it on YouTube.

Three hundred people have attended a city meeting in Los Angeles trying to get them reinstated.

"It's just a case of the punishment not fitting the crime," one supporter said.

Thousands of people on Facebook are calling for the lifeguards to get their jobs back and the mayor wants an independent review into the dismissal.

Psy is also going in to bat for the lifeguards on You Tube.

"I'm begging you to do not fire please."

Psy's 'Gangnam Style' video on YouTube has already been viewed over 221 million times.
