Richard Branson pledges half his fortune to charity

By: Newstalk ZB staff | International News | Thursday February 21 2013 10:18

Sir Richard Branson has pledged to give away at least half his fortune to charity.

The Giving Pledge was founded three years ago by billionaires Bill Gates and Warren Buffett.

The Daily Mail reports that Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, is the latest billionaire to sign up.

The initiative does not accept any money, but asks billionaires to make a moral commitment to give away their wealth to charity.

Other prominent pledgers include Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Star Wars director George Lucas and CNN founder Ted Turner.
