Gingrich ends presidential bid

US republican candidate Newt Gingrich has officially ended his presidential bid.

It's no surprise he's out of the race, given that his campaign is hugely in debt and seriously trailing his main rival, Mitt Romney.

Gingrich, the former House Speaker, is now expected to endorse Romney.

The end of his campaign leaves just Ron Paul remaining as a notional challenger.
