Tourism in Fiji looking to get back on track

By: Blair Cunningham | International News | Wednesday April 4 2012 5:16

Fiji is rolling out the welcome mat for tourists.

Officials are at pains to reassure travellers that the country is open for business despite heavy flooding in the west this week which forced thousands to evacuate their homes.

The cyclone has now passed and the cleanup has begun.

Fijian permanent secretary for tourism Elizabeth Powell says while many thousands of people have been affected, it's business as usual for the tourism industry.

"Most of these areas do not involve our tourism hotels and resorts, which have been built to withstand great variation in weather."

Powell says a number of resorts were without water and power initially but that's been fixed.
