Family sporting event luring PM to United States

By: Natasha Burling | International News | Friday July 20 2012 10:19

John Key's missing out on going to the Olympics but has a more personal sporting event to attend.

The Prime Minister is sending the Governor General and Minister of Sports to London because he got to go to the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.

But now Mr Key's got something more important to go to.

His son's under-17 baseball team has become the only New Zealand team to qualify for the World Series in the United States.

"I'm going to go and watch it. I figured there'll never be another time that I'll be off to the World Series to see my son play."

The Prime Minister told Radio Sport the event will take place in four weeks' time towards the end of the Olympics.
